Simulated Impact of MSCI ESG Ratings Model Update on MSCI Fixed Income Sustainability and Climate Indexes

MSCI has published updated simulations showing the expected impact of the upcoming MSCI ESG Ratings model enhancements that are targeted to be rolled out on March 16, 2026. The simulations reflect the March 2026 Index Review and compare results based on Current ESG Ratings data, and Proforma ESG Ratings data under the updated model (published March 3, 2026).

For each impacted standard and custom index, the file includes Simulated one-way index turnover, Number of additions and deletions as well as Index level ESG score. The file is available on the MSCI Client Support Site:  http://support.msci.com/documents/fixedincome_esg_ratings_5-0_index_impact_Mar_2026

Indexes will rebalance at the March 2026 month end review using the updated ESG Ratings data as of T-3, which corresponds to March 27, 2026. The daily index proforma will incorporate the newly released ESG datasets beginning one to two business days following the official release date. Based on the planned March 16th release, the proforma is expected to begin reflecting the updated ESG ratings by March 18, 2026.

Please note that these simulations do not cover Fixed Income Sustainability Indexes managed by third-party index providers that use MSCI ESG Ratings data. For those indexes, please contact the relevant provider directly.
