THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE MSCI GLOBAL STANDARD INDEXES

TREATMENT OF THE MSCI INDEXES IN THE EVENT OF UNFORESEEN CLOSURES OF CERTAIN ASIAN MARKETS AS PART OF THE AUGUST 2023 INDEX REVIEW

MSCI summarizes the treatment of the MSCI Equity Indexes in light of potential disruption in certain Asian markets due to the incoming Typhoon Saola on August 31, 2023, the effective implementation date of the August 2023 Index Review.

If a stock exchange is open for any part of the trading day on August 31 (i.e. is closed for less than one full trading day), the index review changes for the securities listed on the impacted stock exchange will be implemented as scheduled. The closing price used for the implementation will be the last traded price or the official closing price if provided by the relevant stock exchange.

If a stock exchange remains closed for the entire trading day on August 31, MSCI will postpone all index review changes for the securities in the MSCI Global Investable Market Indexes (GIMI) that are listed on the impacted stock exchange. In this event, MSCI will implement the postponed August 2023 Index Review changes for the impacted securities giving two full business days after the day the relevant exchange reopens for trading.

Additionally, changes for China A shares (including both the onshore and Stock Connect lines) as well as China B shares, also will be postponed in the event of a market disruption impacting the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Stock Connect program. Please note that MSCI would apply the same treatment to the MSCI China All Shares, MSCI China A, MSCI China A RMB and MSCI China A Onshore Indexes.

Further, the index review changes (additions, deletions, constraint factor changes) in the MSCI Factor, ESG, Thematic and Capped Indexes for securities listed on the impacted exchanges will be implemented as previously announced, with the exception that generally such securities from impacted exchanges that are later added to GIMI will not be added to a derived index as part of the August 2023 Index Review changes. The eligibility of such securities from impacted exchanges that are not added will be re-evaluated in the following index review as per the relevant index methodology.

MSCI continues to monitor Typhoon Saola and will provide updates as appropriate.
