Announcement for April 29, 2019 at 08:16 PM GMT
THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE MSCI GLOBAL STANDARD INDEXES
MSCI Inc. (NYSE: MSCI), a leading provider of research-based indexes and
analytics has received queries from international institutional investors
concerning the reclassification of Argentina following the recent market
volatility and related media coverage. MSCI clarifies that the inclusion of the
MSCI Argentina Indexes in the MSCI Emerging Markets Indexes will be implemented
as scheduled, coinciding with the May 2019 Semi-Annual Index Review, unless the
Argentinian authorities introduce restrictive measures that would lead to a
material deterioration in the accessibility of the Argentinian equity market.
As announced on June 20, 2018, were Argentinian authorities to introduce market
accessibility restrictions, such as capital or foreign exchange controls, MSCI
would review its scheduled reclassification decision.
As a reminder, market volatility resulting from economic or political
uncertainty does not generally impact the underlying criteria for market
classification decisions.
In addition, as per the MSCI Market Classification Framework, the introduction
of accessibility restrictions to the Argentinian market may lead to its
reclassification to Standalone Market status, even if these restrictions are
introduced after the reclassification to Emerging Markets is completed. Any
such actions would be preceded by a public consultation.
For additional details on the scheduled reclassification you can refer to the
Q&A document released on April 16, 2019, available at
