THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE MSCI GLOBAL STANDARD INDEXES

CONSULTATION ON ELIGIBILITY OF NON-OPERATING COMPANIES IN THE MSCI GLOBAL INVESTABLE MARKET INDEXES

MSCI Inc. (NYSE: MSCI), a leading provider of critical decision support tools and services for the global investment community, announced today the launch of a consultation with the investment community on potential enhancements to the MSCI Global Investable Market Indexes Methodology.

The GIMI methodology currently excludes investment funds and business development companies from index eligibility. To align this treatment with other companies that exhibit similar characteristics, MSCI proposes to expand this exclusion by defining additional non-operating companies as ineligible for inclusion in the MSCI GIMI indexes.

The consultation sets forth the following proposal:

-Apply a core screen to all companies to determine whether an issuer is a company with substantial operating assets

-For the issuers failing the core screen, apply an additional exclusion screen based on five financial ratios, with index ineligibility triggered if an issuer is flagged on four of the five ratios

-For current constituents of a GIMI index, apply buffers on the thresholds and timing for index removal, requiring the companies to fail the screen for two consecutive periods before removal in order to reduce index turnover and facilitate index stability

MSCI invites feedback from market participants through September 30, 2026, and expects to announce results of the consultation on or before October 16, 2026. Any resulting changes are proposed to be implemented as part of the November 2026 Index Review.

Additional details, including specific thresholds, can be found in the consultation document available at: https://www.msci.com/index-consultations.
